Dozens of Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s supporters from southeast Queens gathered at his downtown Jamaica campaign office Thursday evening.
“Four more years,” they chanted outside the office, located at 165-12 Jamaica Ave.
Walking into the office, with Bruce Springsteen’s song “Born to Run,” Bloomberg greeted his volunteers and fans with an overview of his work during the last eight years and his goals for the next four.
“We’re going to have to work very hard to make the case,” he told them.
Bloomberg emphasized his work to improve education and promised to help revitalize small businesses in the southeast Queens area.
“We need to make sure we can help them,” Bloomberg said.
He also assured his supporters that he would not let the recession affect the safety of New Yorkers.
“When the economy goes down, crime goes up. Not in New York City,” Bloomberg said.
