Cooke to host ‘meet the candidate brunch’ Sunday

City Council hopeful Tom Cooke is hosting a free “Meet the Candidate Brunch” Sunday at Whitestone’s Clearview Jewish Center.
Cooke, a Democrat, is one of six contenders for Councilman Tony Avella’s (D-Bayside) seat this fall. His opponents include Democrats Jerry Iannece, Kevin Kim, Paul Vallone, Debra Markell and Steve Behar as well as Republican Dan Halloran.
The brunch, which will run from 10 a.m. to noon, will include a buffet of donuts, bagels with various spreads, coffee and tea, fruit and juices. Those interested in attending should RSVP by calling 718-425-0939 or e-mailing cookeforcouncil@gmail.com.
The center is at the intersection of Utopia Parkway and 17th Avenue in Whitestone.
District 19 includes Bayside, Little Neck, College Point, Douglaston, Bay Terrace, East Flushing, Malba and Whitestone.
