Queens Dems endorse Ron Kim for Meng’s Assembly seat

The Queens County Democratic Party quietly endorsed Ron Kim in the upcoming election for the Flushing state Assembly seat currently held by state Assemblywoman Grace Meng (D-Flushing).
Kim is a Flushing resident and former ombudsman for Govs. Eliot Spitzer and David Paterson. He was endorsed by the county on Monday, according to spokesman Michael Reich, who cited Kim’s “vast government experience and dynamic connection with the community” as the reasons why he was chosen.
The endorsement means that the county will not be holding out for Meng, who is currently running for Congress. The assemblywoman could technically still run for re-election if she loses in the June 26 congressional primary.
Only Flushing activist Sunny Hahn has officially announced her run for the seat on the Republican ticket so far, although the list of possible contenders being bandied about in political circles is long.
