Edward Braunstein, a former aide to state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan), edged past three opponents Tuesday in the Democratic primary in the first step of the race to replace Assemblywoman Ann-Margaret Carrozza (D-Bayside), according to unofficial election results.

State Assembly candidate Edward Braunstein came under attack this week from his opponents in the race to replace Assemblywoman Ann-Margaret Carrozza (D-Bayside) after his campaign put out a flier calling for Albany reform. Braunstein’s opponents were quick to point out that the Bayside Democrat formerly worked for state Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver (D-Manhattan) and that his campaign is being run by The Parkside Group, a political and consulting lobbying firm.

Senators, Assembly and Congress members and those running for those positions have signed pledges on Wednesday by New York Uprising, a non-partisan, independent group formed by Koch that has a mission to “end corruption in Albany and reinstate the public’s faith in government by offering real, honest and sensible solutions that legislators and candidates can implement, adhere to and be held accountable for executing once elected or re-elected to office.”
